The classic scene is a strong character hearing someone's empty threat and going "피식" — a cool little smirk. But it isn't always mocking. Reading a friend's dumb joke on your phone and snorting quietly, or trying not to laugh in a meeting and failing just a little — that's 피식 too. It's for when something isn't hilarious, but a laugh sneaks out anyway.

웹툰에서는 강한 캐릭터가 상대 허세를 듣고 '피식' 하는 장면이 대표적이다. 근데 꼭 비웃음만은 아니다. 혼자 폰 보다가 친구 드립에 피식, 회의 중에 웃음 참다가 피식 새어 나오는 것도 다 피식이다. 크게 웃긴 건 아닌데 웃음이 살짝 나올 때 딱 맞는 말.
