헉 (heok)

*gasp!* — sudden shock

What it means

A sharp gasp — the sound of sudden shock or alarm.

When you'll see it

When a character sees something they really shouldn't have, or realizes they've just made a huge mistake, a big "헉!" pops up over their head. Koreans say it out loud all the time, too: checking your credit card bill — 헉. Looking at the clock and realizing you're about to be late — 헉. In texts, "헉 진짜?" ("whoa, seriously?") sounds a bit more shocked than 헐.

언제 쓰나

보면 안 될 걸 봤을 때, 엄청난 실수를 깨달았을 때 캐릭터 머리 위에 '헉!'이 뜬다. 현실에서도 입으로 진짜 많이 내는 소리다. 카드값 보고 헉, 시계 보니 지각 직전이라 헉. 메신저에서 '헉 진짜?'는 '헐'보다 조금 더 놀란 느낌이다.
